Dr. Pimple Popper

If you ask an expert all your most urgent acne questions, said expert should probably go by the nickname, Dr Pimple Popper. Sandra Lee, a board-certified dermatologist and star of her own TLC show, stars in our latest episode of Derma Reacts to answer everything you ever wanted to know about acne.

Lee isn’t just the internet’s most famous dermatologist; she’s also the owner of SLMD, a line of pro-level skincare designed to address common skin issues. Her latest invention is the just-launched SLMD Resurfacing Acne Swipes. The pre-soaked pads contain salicylic, lactic, and glycolic acid to resurface and gently exfoliate the skin.

Different Between Types of Dr Pimple Popper’s Acne Remedies

Although it seems that the usual practice when you have a blemish on the skin is to touch it, the dermatologist points out that the first thing is to determine the type of acne, differentiating between inflammatory and non-inflammatory with visual examples and a professional explanation.

Non – inflammatory benefits is acne is what we often call blackheads and whiteheads, pores clogged with oil, dirt, and dead skin cells that can fill with bacteria and lead to inflammatory acne. “I recommend incorporating salicylic acid as a key ingredient in skincare. Salicylic acid is a beta edition hydroxy acid that can crystallize to a size small enough to penetrate the pore, exfoliate it, and cleanse it of dead skin cells, dirt, and oil. ”

How to Remove a Pimple?

In her daily routine, the doctor does not stop receiving questions about the types of acne and how to treat them; one of the most repeated is not so much about the extraction but about what is done after removing it. “If there is still pus, gently squeeze and cleanse the area with a facial cleanser, for example, one with salicylic acid, to remove any remaining bacteria. Then, could you keep your hands off and let it heal? Touching, squeezing, and pinching will only prolong your healing process and maybe even cause dark acne spots.”

Inflammatory acne is the most annoying and a result of the previous one. “As the bacteria causes inflammation and infection, these large, painful pimples appear. No substance what kind of acne you have; the best thing you can do is stick to a routine that actively treats and prevents pimples.” The success of Sandra Lee does not consist, therefore, of a series of pleasant and unpleasant videos about pimple extractions, followed by a marketing campaign of her brand; the dermatologist seeks to raise awareness about the consequences of acne on self-confidence; in addition, to teach skin care in a simple but effective way. For her treatment, the ingredient prescribed by the doctor to her followers is benzoyl peroxide: “Fights acne breakouts at their base by killing the bacteria that are going to cause that painful acne.

The Pillar of Good Skin Cleansing and SPF

The Pillar of Good Skin Cleansing and SPF

At the height of the Korean skincare decalogue and when everyone seems to know how important it is to use an appropriate facial cleanser between cyst and cyst, Dr Pimple Popper’s Instagram profile also teaches how to cleanse the skin, which has led her a bit to act as an ambassador of cosmetic simplicity: cleaning, treating and protecting from the sun’s rays are her three pillars, identical to those of minimalism or skin diet, but in her case followed by an explanatory work of each step. When it comes to proper cleaning, for the dermatologist, there is a precise routine to repeat daily.

The first step is to wet the skin before applying the cleanser, always using warm or cold water, never hot. Next, always clean the skin in circular movements and dry the face with a clean towel to prevent the proliferation of bacteria. These small gestures are essential for progressive skin improvement, without forgetting hydration as the final part of the care.

And that’s why when we learned that she would be visiting our offices in Brooklyn, we couldn’t wait to ask her general and specific questions that we have about her work and our skin. Dr Lee kindly responded to questions from Broadly staff and our readers. This was what she replied:

What is the Weirdest Body Part you’ve Had to Do?

I don’t do those kinds of extractions. If you want an example of something weird, there’s something called scrotal cysts. You will see the type of cysts I remove in any area with hair; you find them in all the nooks and crannies. I say that they are like snowflakes because they are never the same.

Have you Ever Gotten a Pimple, and if so, What Have you Done?

When something splashes on you, it sticks to you, and you are aware of it. They have hit the walls. It feels like you’ve dropped acid, but that’s just part of the dangers in my life.

How do you distinguish if a Pimple is “Ready” to Pop or Should you Wait?

Like any dermatologist, I’ll tell you not to squeeze pimples, but I know you will. Also I think the important thing is to understand that the deeper you hurt. It the more likely you will get scars or infections. So pimples that look deep aren’t ready to be popped; squeezing them will make them bigger.

I do not recommend applying lemon juice to your skin. She might consider it a bleaching agent because the chemical acids can lighten the skin. I’m not sure what the banana peel does.
